Respect is another way you can spell Ronnie Thwaites name. It is also what many artists within the industry give Ronald Brown, born in Kingston, September 2, 1967. Ronnie Thwaites began singing in school at the tender age of 16. His attribute musical influences are Mark Anthony and Junior Rankin. Ronnie Thwaites received his stage name from brethren Tony Yobba. Ronnie his nickname, Thwaites from a well known local radio personal on power 106Fm, Jamaica called Ronald Thwaites. As a young man growing up in Kingston, Jamaica. Ronnie started singing in his local community Tivoli Garden, Kingston. He obtained his name from a friend Tony Yobba. Ronnie, his nickname and Thwaites he got from a very popular radio personality on Radio Power 106Fm. Thwaites performed on several soundsystems like Black Ruler Round -A-Tone and Black Universe. While waiting for his food from the music, he became very handy making numerous handcrafts from gypsum and clay. He was proud to introduce himself respectively and independently into the market place.
His talent was discovered by the singer Mark Anthony. He is known for his electrifying performances and being a crowd pleaser at every event. In 1990, he started professional recordings. His first single, “Spanish Town Bridge”, was released in 1992 and went number one in Jamaica, knocking off the big hit single “Murder she wrote” by Shaka Demus and Pliers. “Spanish Town Bridge” was retitled and subsequently released by King Jammy’s under the title “Mr Luxury”. The success of this song filtered all over the world. In America the Hip-Hop-Reggae group "Born Jamericans" did a cover version called “Boom Shak Attack” on their debut album “Kids from Foreign”. Ronnie Thwaites song "Spanish Town Bridge" inevitably proved to be "Born Jamericans" biggest hit up to date. So, what became of the royalties for Ronnie Thwaites hard work, one could ask? He had done numerous performances all over the Island before he entered Border Clash in 1992. Cactus Night Club was one of the main dancehall forums. With his electrifying voice and high tenor vocal Border Clash was lit with musical fire. Jamaicans had by now registered that Ronnie Thwaite's aim was to leave a mark which would influence many of today's artists, hence his tone of voice will remain a remarkable entity for life. One could only imagine the atmosphere during and after his performance at Border Clash. Magazines, radio djs, promoters and all sources of media was after him to display his talent to the forefront of the reggae family. After obtaining all the front pages and international broadcasting the artist decided to embark on recording a catalogue of roots, lovers rock and dancehall music. Here he got involved with many new producers, djs, promoters and radio jockeys. They became a guide light on his way to progress. Many soundsystems glocally and outanationally wanted him to be amongst their great collections of the finest voices on dub plates coming out of Jamaica’s reggae core. So well blessed, Ronnie Thwaites is one of them. Being busy recording in various studios in Kingston and all around the I-land, his presence encouraged many upcoming artists to believe in themselves and rule their own destiny. 'Superb' Ronnie. In 1996, he played at Reggae Sun Splash. In 1999, he did a celebration with Harry Toddler called “Victim” under Bobby Digital label. The same year, Thwaites formed his own "Label Mr Luxury" and released “My Day”, which got a lot of air play. In 2001, he did “Heart Breaker” in celebration with Chunky Star. In 2005, the song was made over again, but this time with Bounty Killer. The same year, Thwaites recorded “Love of mi Life Time” under Father Label. He did a lot of traveling to promote his music; United States, Antigua and Bahamas. Up to date, his appearances on numerous DVDs and visual live concerts, helps also to keep a balanced strength which he as an artist need to remain intact as he strive to complete his forthcoming album. At present, Ronnie Thwaites has recorded “Lucky Day” under Campfire Label and is working on his album. Ronnie Thwaites will not skip a beat in continuing his wining ways. With songs like “Nah Ease Up On a Man, Girl”, “Moonshine”, “Sex is Life”, “System”, “Wheel on” and “Noon Nong” the artist is worthy of honor and respect. Ronnie Thwaite name is now in the register of the worlds technologically and musically which must not be undermined as his contribution to consciousness is a bearable seed that will grow fruitfully for life.
